Quartersawn White Oak is the premium cut of an already exceptional species and with 8/4 it becomes one of the most structurally superior building materials available in any domestic hardwood. Quartersawing the log at roughly 90 degrees to the growth rings reveals White Oak's spectacular medullary ray fleck: a shimmering, ribbon-like figure that runs across the face of every board and gives quartersawn White Oak its unmistakable, high-end appearance. At this thickness, that ray fleck runs through the full depth of furniture legs, door components, and architectural panels delivering a three-dimensional shimmer that flat sawn stock at any thickness simply cannot replicate. With a Janka hardness rating of ~1,360 lbf and significantly reduced seasonal movement compared to flat sawn, quartersawn White Oak is the choice of serious furniture makers, architects, and interior designers who refuse to compromise on either appearance or performance.
This 8/4 stock is surfaced 2 sides (S2S) to 1-7/8" and machines cleanly with sharp tooling, holds joinery well, and finishes to a smooth, elegant surface. Its superior dimensional stability makes it particularly well suited to large-format builds where wood movement needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.
