We started as a small retail and furniture studio in Hamilton — designing and building pieces by hand. To build well, we needed hardwood we could count on. When we couldn’t find the consistency we wanted, we began sourcing and selecting it ourselves.

Out of the workshop came the lumber side — naturally.

We still run a full furniture shop today, and we still hand-select every board the same way we select our own stock. Whether you’re a professional or just getting started, we believe your materials should make you feel excited to build — not overwhelmed.

Do I need woodworking experience?
None at all. The blanks arrive already planed flat, squared, and sanded to 120 grit. All you need to do is a final sand with 180 or 220 grit paper (optional), apply food-safe mineral oil or cutting board wax, and let it dry. If you don't want to do even that, add our professional finishing upgrade and we'll do it for you — boards arrive ready to sell or gift.
What tools do I need?
For basic finishing: sandpaper (180 or 220 grit), mineral oil or cutting board wax, and a cloth. That's it. No power tools, no workshop needed. Most customers finish their first batch on a kitchen counter or garage workbench in an afternoon.
How much can I realistically sell these for?
Ambrosia Maple finished cutting boards typically sell for $120+ each at craft markets and on Etsy. Black Walnut commands $200+ each due to its premium reputation. Most first-time sellers are surprised how quickly they move at markets.
Will all 5 boards look the same?
Each board is unique — that's the beauty of natural hardwood. Ambrosia Maple has its signature streaks and warm tones, but no two boards are identical. Black Walnut is prized for its rich contrasting colour and premium feel.
Do they come finished?
No — they arrive unfinished so you can apply your preferred oil, wax, or food-safe finish. This gives you full creative control over the final look. However, we offer a professional finishing upgrade where we sand and oil all 5 boards before shipping — they arrive ready to sell or use immediately.
What finish should I use?
For food-safe cutting boards we recommend food-grade mineral oil as your first choice — affordable, effective, and easy to reapply. For a polished finish, use cutting board wax (a blend of beeswax and mineral oil). Both are available at most hardware or grocery stores. Apply liberally, let it soak in for a few hours, wipe off the excess. Apply 2–3 coats for a new board.
