(Entandrophragma utile)
West and Central Africa
Also known as Utile and Sipo Mahogany

Heartwood is a uniform medium reddish brown. Well-defined sapwood is a paler yellow. Generally, it lacks any dramatic figuring of grain that is common in the closely related Sapele.

Sipo can be troublesome to work in some machines, resulting in tear out due to its interlocked grain. It can also react when put into direct contact with iron, becoming discoloured and stained. Turns, glues, and finishes well. Janka hardness of 1,180

Common Uses: Furniture, cabinetry, veneer, boatbuilding, flooring, and turned objects.
